SINGAPORE, July 28 -- Singapore has preliminarily confirmed 359 new cases of COVID-19 infection in the republic today, with the vast majority of them being migrant workers residing in dormitories.

In its brief noon data released here, its Ministry of Health (MOH) said there was one case in the community involving a work pass holder and two imported cases who had been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.

With the new figures, the total infection tally for the republic now stands at 51,197 cases.

In its full data released late yesterday, Singapore classified 686 of its cases as imported, 2,167 as community cases and 47,985 as dorm residents.

As at noon yesterday, 45,692 or about 90 per cent of the total cases have fully recovered from the infection and discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

There were 179 confirmed cases still in hospital.

Of these, most were stable or improving and no cases were in the intensive care unit.

A total of 4,940 patients who had symptoms or were clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19 have been isolated and are being cared for at community facilities.

To date, 27 people have died from complications due to COVID-19 here.

One new cluster was identified yesterday, a dormitory at 6, Sungei Kadut Street 2.
