KOTA KINABALU, March 7 -- The Sabah government will continue to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said they should not be complacent and feel comfortable even though the situation in Sabah was under control.

“We (state government) have taken several measures, including suspending direct flights from Wuhan (China) and Korea (South) to prevent the disease spreading here (Sabah).

“Not that we are preventing tourist arrivals, we encourage (but for now) we are more concerned about the health of Sabahans. I hope it is temporary,” he told reporters after officiating the state-level Public Health Carnival here, today.

Mohd Shafie said the health of the people was an important asset in ensuring the state and country's economic progress continues to be driven to a higher level, thereby enhancing people’s welfare in the future.

He also urged the people of Sabah to continue to optimise hygiene and health to keep themselves safe from COVID-19.

In the meantime, Sabah Health and People's Wellbeing Minister Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung said to date there were 138 cases of patients under investigation (PUI) with 106 samples taken for testing showing  negative results.
