Hunan Film Screening Week Strengthens Malaysia-China Cultural Ties

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- The China·Hunan Film–2026 Malaysia Screening Week concluded recently after showcasing Hunan’s cinematic excellence and digital innovation to Malaysian audiences at GSC Cinema, BBCC LaLaport.

Guided by the Hunan Provincial Film Administration and the China Film Distribution and Exhibition Association, the event was hosted by Hunan Broadcasting System, with Phoenix New Media of Hunan serving as the chief media partner, according to a statement.

The event was organised by the Movie Industry Association of Changsha and Letian Entertainment (Hunan) Co Ltd, with co-planning from Beijing Womei Cinema Investment Co Ltd and Malaysia’s Womei Cineplex Entertainment Sdn Bhd.

Malaysia-China Business Council Director, Tan Sri Datuk Sri Barry Goh said the screening week provided a valuable platform to deepen cultural ties and industry collaboration, noting that cinema serves as an important bridge for people-to-people connectivity between Malaysia and China.

Meanwhile, Hunan Broadcasting System Chief Auditor, Qin Hao described the event as a key cultural outreach initiative under the Belt and Road Initiative, serving as both a platform for cultural exchange and industrial cooperation.

“Hunan Broadcasting System is ready to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism with all sectors in Malaysia, and jointly create high-quality works with international influence,” added Qin.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by representatives from FINAS, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia, the Malaysia-China Business Council, Hunan Broadcasting System, the Movie Industry Association of Changsha and Letian Entertainment (Hunan) Co Ltd.
