MELAKA, May 23 (Bernama) -- Melaka achieved a marketability rate of 78.4 per cent for Students with Special Educational Needs (MBPK) last year.
Melaka Education Department senior principal assistant director (special education sector) Md Aziz Lani said the marketability involved three categories, namely self-employed, working with others or earning a salary and pursuing further studies.
He said among the initiatives to increase the marketability rate of MBPK was through the Special Education Career Channel Excellence Programme (ProMKeSK) to produce skilled and independent individuals.
"Through ProMKeSK, the MBPK will be trained for five years starting from level one according to their field of interest before being awarded a Level Two Skills Certificate (SKM) from the Skills Development Department (JPK).
"Among the skill areas offered for MBPK are bread making, pastry making, food making and preparation as well as women's clothing manufacturing," he told reporters after officiating the 2022/2023 Melaka State ProMKeSK Graduation Ceremony involving 53 students here.
Md Aziz said ProMKeSK was implemented to unearth talent or improve skills among MBPK to give them added value.
"We also hope that employers will be more open to accepting people with special needs because they also have certain unique skillsets," he added.
