KUCHING, July 22 -- The COVID-19 new daily cases in Sarawak reached 644 today, bringing the cumulative number in the state to 72,857.
The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) in its daily report said the increase in cases was the result of targeted screening in localities under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), namely, Kampung Seratau di Kuching; Kambieng longhouse in Krian, Saratok; Miri Central Prison and Sri Aman Central Prison.
Out of the new cases reported, 258 are in Kuching; Saratok (131); Miri (126); Sri Aman (27); Sibu (22); Samarahan (15); Serian and Bau (12 each), Betong (seven); Pakan, Lundu, Kapit, Sarikei and Telang Usan (four each); Bintulu, Lawas, Meradong, Beluru and Subis (two each); and Song, Tebedu, Bukit Mabong and Selangau (one each).
However, no deaths were recorded today, said JPBN.
Meanwhile, two new COVID-19 clusters were declared, involving longhouse communities in Saratok district and placed under the EMCO. The Ulu Senalau Cluster has recorded 33 positive cases while the Abu Bengang Cluster has 131 positive cases.
JPBN also reported three more longhouses placed under the EMCO. These are the Ama longhouse in Nanga Keluton Entabai, Pakan from July 21-Aug 6, and Labo Anak Abit longhouse and Ambon Anak Menggat longhouse in Bakong, Beluru from July 22-Aug 5.
