TELUK INTAN, May 3 -- A total of 546 orphans and asnaf (tithe recipients) will receive special assistance from the state government involving an allocation of RM109,200 in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration.
State Women Development, Family and Social Welfare Committee chairman Datuk Dr Wan Norashikin Wan Noordin said the assistance would be provided to 19 orphanages in the state registered with the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
She said the special assistance of ‘duit raya’ worth RM200 was the first initiative under the state ‘Kasih Lebaran Bersama Anak-Anak Yatim Negeri Perak’ programme.
"Hopefully, the orphans and the poor living at these orphanages are happy to celebrate Eid and feel loved,” she said urging the community to care for and show kindness towards orphans and the unfortunate.
Dr Wan Norashikin said this to reporters after launching the programme and handing over a replica of an RM5,200 cheque to Yayasan Anak Yatim Darussakinah of Hilir Perak in Chenderong Balai, here, today.
She said donations to the remaining 18 orphanages would be handed over to Perak JKM director Nor Tipah Majin this week.
