Perlis Digital Plan should be in line with communication infrastructure development - MB

08/04/2021 03:40 PM

KANGAR, April 8 -- The Perlis Digital Plan can only be fully implemented after the state has been provided with sufficient communication infrastructure, to meet the needed requirements.

Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man said although the telecommunication coverage in the state has reached 97 per cent, it is still not enough to meet the needs during peak hours.

“For instance, during the recent implementation of Movement Control Order (MCO), many broadband users experienced slow internet connection due to the increased demand,” he told Bernama today.

Earlier, he received a courtesy call from Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah at the Menteri Besar's Office here.

Azlan said he had asked the Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) to look into the matter, to help the state government fully implement the Perlis Digital Plan policy.

He said the state government also suggested that telecommunication companies no longer use the demandbase approach, which prioritised areas with good market potential.

“I suggest that they use the supply-driven approach, in which telecommunication infrastructure will still be built in areas with a low population density,” he said.

Azlan opined that good infrastructure facilities would increase the population in an area besides reviving economic activities there.
