IPOH, Sept 14 -- The Higher Education Ministry has allocated RM5.9 million to upgrade the Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO)’s library here and the project has been fully completed on Aug 7.
Polytechnic and Community College Education Department director-general Dr Mohammad Naim Yaakub said that the upgrading project involved the construction of an annex building.
“Construction work on the project commenced on April 19, 2018, which has successfully expanded the library area from 1,338 to 2,208 square metres.
“Among the additional facilities available are a discussion room, mini theatre, journal room, 24-hour room, redspot room, examination room and meeting room,” he said at a press conference after the handover and launching ceremony of the PUO library upgrading project, here, today.
He said that the annex building could accommodate a maximum capacity of 1,400 visitors at any one time compared with only 300 people previously.
“It can also accommodate the growing needs of students in PUO, especially for bachelor's degree programmes,” he said.
He was also satisfied with the quality of construction of the annex building which boasts one of the most advanced facilities available at PUO.
“This building was also completed about three months ahead of schedule. We are satisfied with the design and facilities available in this building which follows the latest specifications and technology,” he said.
