KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- A group of foreign women who misused domestic helper passes to work as guest relations officers (GROs) at luxury entertainment outlets in Sri Hartamas were arrested by the Immigration Department in Ops Gegar at midnight.
They were among 41 individuals aged between their 20s and 50s detained in raids on two premises, comprising 39 foreigners and two local men suspected to be the outlet managers.
Kuala Lumpur Immigration director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said the operation, which began at 12.30 am, followed a month-long surveillance that revealed the outlets hired undocumented migrants and foreign workers in breach of their passes.
“Of the 63 people checked, we detained nine Vietnamese women, 22 Thai women, eight Bangladeshi men and two locals. Most of the women entered on maid passes but abused them by working as GROs and drinking companions.
“We also found price sashes used to charge customers between RM100 and RM500 for the GROs of their choice,” he told reporters after the operation.
He said the foreigners are being investigated for various offences including overstaying, breaching pass conditions and failing to produce valid travel documents, while the two locals will be probed for employing and harbouring undocumented migrants.
Wan Mohammed Saupee reminded Malaysians not to hire undocumented migrants, warning that stern action awaits offenders.
