Malaysia-Indonesia conduct 41st Search and Rescue Exercise

JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Indonesia will carry out the 41st Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX MALINDO) here beginning today.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Headquarters’ Search and Rescue and Disaster Relief Division director First Admiral Aminuddin Abd Rashid said the exercise will take place over three days.

He said the exercise coordinated by the Johor Bahru Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre (MRSC) and the Tanjung Pinang SAR Office (Indonesia) will focus on the waters of East Johor where boat capsizing incidents often occurred.

"The exercise, carried out as a table top exercise and field training exercise, involves participants and assets from Malaysia, namely the MMEA, Royal Malaysian Navy, Marine Police Force, Air Operations Force.

"While for Indonesia, it will involve assets from the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS), the Indonesian National Army (TNI), the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (BAKAMLA), the Air Police (POLAIR) as well as other participants from various Malaysian and Indonesian agencies," he said in a statement today.

According to him, the opening ceremony of the SAREX MALINDO exercise was completed by the Head of BASARNAS, TNI Vice Marshal Henri Alfiandi, through a video conference and the closing ceremony will be held on Sept 22 at the Johor State Maritime Headquarters.
