KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 -- Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member countries have welcomed Malaysia’s proposal on the Review of APEC Food Security Roadmap Towards 2020, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry (MoA) today.
The revised documents according to the ministry, will be circulated within the Policy Partnership on Food Security (PPFS) and other working groups for comments and endorsed intercessional.
It added that member economies also noted the intent to encourage more active participation from the private sector in PPFS.
“Economies shared experiences and presented on the on-going initiatives and projects related to trade facilitation, smart agriculture, women participation, climate change, food loss and food waste, as detailed in the respective work plans.
“These initiatives are in line with the APEC Food Security Roadmap towards 2020 for achieving a sustainable food system,” said the MoA in a statement today.
The ministry added that PPFS Chair office highlighted the theme, “Redefining Efforts Towards A Prosperous Future of Sustainable Food Security” and three key priority areas: sustainability, inclusivity and emerging technologies for PPFS 2020.
PPFS 2020 also aims to promote the importance of shared prosperity between the developed and developing economies in addressing food insecurity within the APEC region, promoting mutual gain or win-win situations.
“The economies also noted on the intent to encourage for more active participation from the private sector in PPFS,” said the MoA.
