KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), through the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA) and the Malaysian Industry Group High Technology (MIGHT), has collaborated with Scottish Development International (SDI) to organise the Malaysia-Scotland TechnoMart Programme.

Scottish Development International (SDI) is an external trade and investment agency that aims to promote Scotland as a place for investment and trade.

The programme was held for two days at MIGHT Partnership Hub, Cyberjaya on Feb 13 and at the MYSA Headquarters, Kuala Lumpur on Feb 14.

In a statement today, MOSTI said the programme was also implemented in collaboration with strategic partners from the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the Malaysian Investment Development Board (MIDA), and the Malaysian Space Industry Consortium (MASIC).

"It aims to build opportunities and explore industrial cooperation in the field of space between Malaysia and Scotland, which is fully supported by the United Kingdom.

"The completion of the programme involves a workshop session that discusses the five main topics in space, namely Space Application, Space Operations, Space Manufacturing, Funding and Governance, and Academia, followed by presentations, pitching, and business matching sessions," the ministry said.

MOSTI said as many as 22 delegations from Scotland consisting of eight leading companies and two renowned universities are among the participants involved in this programme. 

"The participation from Malaysia involved 60 participants consisting of six government agencies, 12 companies, and 10 local universities," it added.

According to MOSTI, the programme has identified as many as nine projects that have great potential to be developed through strategic cooperation between the two countries.

"It covers aspects of the development of satellite-based solutions in the fields of communications, agriculture and positioning (three projects), the provision of launch and operation services (three projects), as well as the research and development of satellite technology with academics (three projects).

Advanced manufacturing technology in space has also been identified as one of the potential strategic collaborations based on the availability of the electrical and electronics (E&E) industry in the country," it said.
