PUTRAJAYA,  Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) is allocating RM5 million to sponsor more than 300 participants for apprenticeship under the “Jom Jadi Perantis” (JumPER) programme this year.

PUNB chairman Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the increase in the amount of funding followed the success of the JumPER programme carried out previously.

He said RM1.5 million was allocated for the programme last year which involved 78 participants.

"The JumPER program will continue to be improved to ensure that it continues to be relevant for the youth who want to build their careers in the business field," he told reporters after attending the 2023 PUNB JumPER Appreciation Ceremony here today.

The JumPER programme, established in 2009 has so far benefitted 4,256 participants involving a total funding value of RM20.9 million.

Acryl Sani, who was appointed as PUNB chairman on Sept 1 last year, said PUNB's JumPER programme was created to encourage young graduates to enter the business field by introducing the concept of apprenticeship training with mentors.

He said the selected participants will undergo training for up to eight months.

They will also be paid allowance by PUNB, he added.

According to him, PUNB allocated RM3.68 million last year, to implement three programmes under the young entrepreneur development initiative involving the JumPER Alumni Business Development Grant, the JumPER Graduate Entrepreneurship Training and PUNB-Higher Institutions of Learning (IPTs) Unichallenge.

“PUNB always tries to introduce new initiatives to fuel the culture of entrepreneurship among Bumiputera youth as well as increase the participation of entrepreneurs who are more qualified and skilled in the use of digital technology, in line with the digital era," he said.

PUNB was established on July 17, 1991, to increase the participation and involvement of Bumiputera in the field of entrepreneurship and to create a dynamic, resilient, progressive and successful Bumiputera Trade and Industry Society (MPPB).
