KEPALA BATAS, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Kedai Emas Anuar, a gold and jewellery chain retailer, plans to open 30 new branches nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak this year, with a capital injection of RM87.5 million.

Its managing director Mohd Khurulanuar Mhamad Noor said that Kedai Emas Anuar currently has 22 outlets throughout Peninsular Malaysia.

“With business operations in several locations, including in Perlis, Kedah, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Johor and Penang, the Emas Anuar group is optimistic that it would meet customer demands and be successful in doing business regardless of location.

“We hope to achieve the target of opening 30 new stores nationwide, including five branches each in Sabah and Sarawak, as previously we had no gold stores in the two states.

“Last year, the revenue for the current 22 outlets amounted to around RM500 million," he told Bernama today during the opening ceremony of Koperasi Eksklusif Emas Anuar Bhd (Kemasa), officiated by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang, Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.

Also present were the wife of the Yang Dipertua Negeri, Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Nor, and the Malaysian Cooperative Commission chief executive officer Rosli Jaafar.

Mohd Khurulanuar said the group plans to open a branch in Indonesia following popular demand from its citizens here.

"Emas Anuar is well known among Indonesians who work in this country as they visit our store to buy gold.

“We are also able to generate good demand from Indonesians who are on vacation here, and that is why we plan to open a store there once we complete the opening of our new stores in Malaysia," he said.

He said further that the group plans to open its own gold factory in Penang with an allocation of RM200 million by next year to support gold production in all its outlets nationwide, as the current factory is only able to support small-scale gold production.

“We also aim to open our own pawnshop and gold bank to benefit not only Kemasa members but also the public,” he said.

Additionally, Kemasa, which currently has 400 members among Emas Anuar employees, aims to be the leading gold cooperative in Malaysia and intends to collaborate with other cooperatives to improve the economic well-being of its members, he added.
