LABUAN, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- Labuan Faculty of International Finance (FKAL) at University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has partnered with two players in the financial industry, to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise between academia and industry.

Through the signing of a letter of intent (LoI), FKAL has partnered with Signature Trust Ltd, a prominent player in the financial industry.

FKAL Dean Associate Professor Geoffrey Harvey Tanakinjal said this collaboration aims to improve the academic experience for students and staff by exposing them to real-world industry challenges and expertise.

“By bridging the gap between theory and practice, the collaboration seeks to enhance readiness for the financial industry through internships and hands on experiences.

The signing of the LoI sets the stage for a future memorandum of understanding (MoU) or memorandum of agreement (MoA) outlining specific areas of cooperation between FKAL, Signature Trust Ltd and UMS," he said at the signing ceremony at UMS Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) here today.

Signature Trust director Jacy Lau Aik Fong shared similar sentiments, emphasising the contribution of this partnership to the growth and innovation in the financial sector.

In another stride towards strengthening academic-industry partnership, FKAL also inked a LoI with Captegist Sdn Bhd.

Geoffrey said this LoI lays the foundation for future official MoUs or MoAs between the institutions.

"The collaboration with Captegist Sdn Bhd is marked by shared goals of promoting long-term development for both entities and facilitating a vibrant exchange of ideas and knowledge.

It aspires to foster closer interaction between academia and industry experts, providing students and faculty with invaluable insights and hands on experiences," he said.

He said this collaboration would empower students and professors at FKAL, UMS with access to Captegist Sdn Bhd's wealth of industrial expertise, thereby enhancing academic research and practical applications across various industries.

Captegist business development manager Luqman Hakim is optimistic the future possibilities of the partnership, emphasising its potential to bridge the gap between academic understanding and practical application, benefiting both students and the industry.

Both collaborations are geared towards improving the learning experience by offering students and faculty exposure to real-world industry challenges, projects, and problem solving scenarios.
