KPJ 1Q NET PROFIT JUMPS TO RM51.9 MLN

KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 (Bernama) -- KPJ Healthcare Bhd’s net profit jumps to RM51.90 million for the first quarter ended  March 31, 2023 (1Q FY2023), compared to a RM22.14 million from the previous corresponding quarter.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, KPJ said its revenue increased to RM828.98 million for the quarter under review, compared to RM641.64 million last year, an increase of 29 per cent.

“Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation for the current quarter was at RM190.2 million, 27 per cent better than the RM150.3 million for same quarter previously.

“Profit before tax showed an excellent performance to RM77.6 million, a two-fold increase from RM38.4 million in 1Q 2022. This better performance was mainly driven by the performance from the Malaysia segment,” it said.

KPJ said the higher revenue of RM828.98 million for the first quarter of 2023 was evidenced with the increase in the patient visits and bed occupancy rate to 821,126 patients from 786,421 patients and 70 per cent from 48 per cent respectively.

“The Malaysia segment contributes an increment of RM182.1 million in its current quarter revenue to RM800.7 million from RM618.6 million in 1Q 2022. The increment represents 97 per cent of the total increment for the group,” it said.

KPJ remain optimistic on the growth potential of the health tourism segment with more tourist arrivals expected in 2023. 

“We anticipate a gradual stabilisation of the upturn in the domestic market. Our group’s focus remains on initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, operationalising additional capacity introduced in 2022, and increasing revenue intensity by providing specialised services,” it added.

A single tier interim dividend of 0.65 sen per ordinary share will be paid on July 4, 2023.
