SOUTHEAST ASIA BUSINESSES NEED COMPREHENSIVE CYBERSECURITY SOLUTIONS - KASPERSKY

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- Southeast Asia remains as the fastest growing digital economy in Asia Pacific and needs comprehensive cybersecurity solutions as well as the right talent to manage their defenses.

Kaspersky general manager for Southeast Asia Yeo Siang Tiong said governments here have been taking bold steps to support local digitalisation efforts and to beef up their respective country’s data protection and cybersecurity capabilities.

However, he said it is crucial for a parallel need in comprehensive solutions as local businesses in the region embraces digital transformation.

“For our part, we have been actively partnering with local universities to provide training and workshops to upskill students and to ensure their curriculum meet current industry demands. However, it will take years for these students to become cybersecurity professionals,” he pointed out.

Hence, he said engaging reliable managed security service providers (MSSPs) could ensure enterprises have the right security talent and effective solutions.

“It’s an efficient way to outsource if your partner is engaged with a cybersecurity company with proven expertise in threat detection, response and threat intelligence,” he said.

Furthermore, according to the latest Kaspersky IT Security Economics Report, businesses in the region outsource security functions to MSSPs mainly to achieve efficiency in delivering security solutions, address IT employee shortage or understaffing, and to meet the requirements for special security expertise.

The global cybersecurity and digital privacy provider said the report covered 26 countries across all of Kaspersky’s major business-to-business markets and companies of different sizes, from small and medium-sized businesses with 50 employees right up to major corporations.

Experts also forecast a steady growth of the MSSP market in Southeast Asia in the coming years due to the region’s collective push towards country-wide digital transformation initiatives.
