KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia Bhd raised RM3.49 billion from both primary and secondary listings last year, a 27 per cent increase over the RM2.75 billion raised in 2021.

In a statement today, the exchange said this included 35 new listings, the highest on the exchange since 2006, where a total of RM11.15 billion was raised, contributing to the overall market capitalisation of RM1.74 trillion.

The exchange said the retail segment continued to be a significant contributor, accounting for 25 per cent of the total average daily value.

“The retail market works together and complements the institutional market to generate volume that the Malaysian equity market needs.

“A healthy equity market ecosystem is paramount to ensure there is strong liquidity in circulation,” Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift said.

Meanwhile, the exchange said it presented 77 awards to the winners of the Retail Investor Campaign 2022 at an awards ceremony recently.

It said the highest number of awards went to Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd with 22 awards, including four top broker awards, CGS-CIMB Securities Sdn Bhd with 15 awards while Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd, RHB Investment Bank Bhd and Maybank Investment Bank Bhd won six awards each.
