JASIN, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Melaka State Government, through Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Melaka (PKNM), is actively planning a new industrial area development project involving the northern economic hub of Melaka and the expansion of the existing economic hub in the south of the state.

State Housing, Local Government and Environment exco Datuk Zaidi Attan said the development of the two economic hubs is very important to ensure Melaka continued to be a destination and focus for investors to continue investing in the state.

“The development of the economic hub area in the northern part of Melaka, which will be known as the Melaka Hi-Tech Park, covers the area of Masjid Tanah and Alor Gajah with an area of approximately 2,023 hectares, which has been identified and will be implemented in phases.

“For the economic hub area in the southern part of Melaka, PKNM is planning to further expand the Elkay industrial area in Jasin with an additional area of approximately 242 hectares,” he told reporters after inaugurating Sentuhan Masyarakat Aspirasi PKNM with #MalaysianFamily 2022 programme here today.

Also present was Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) I Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah.

Zaidi said PKNM would also develop a new 36-hectare halal hub industrial area in Merlimau to meet the demand from investors for halal industrial areas in Melaka.

Besides that, he said several housing projects have also been identified to be developed in the Jasin district such as 200 units of affordable houses, 500 units of People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Serkam and 50 units of fishermen’s houses in Sebatu.

“We are also focusing on the tourism and recreation sector in an effort to improve the state’s economy, including My Siring Water Front with an area of 12 hectares as well as the sea park integrated terminal in Umbai with an area of 3.6 hectares.

“All of these planned development projects are among the state government’s efforts to improve Melaka’s economy in various sectors in addition to creating job opportunities for the local community,” he added.
