COREHALAL DIGITAL PLATFORM TO EMPOWER HALAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN SABAH

23/08/2022 05:05 PM

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The halal industry in Sabah will continue to expand to the international level with the development of a digital platform, CoreHalal, to further empower the state’s halal management system, said Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Yakub Khan.

He said CoreHalal is a digital platform developed by Kota Kinabalu-based software development firm, Synxsoft Sdn Bhd, which focuses on risk management, auditing and training.

"CoreHalal was developed based on guidelines issued by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim). The platform has huge potential as it is the only digital platform that provides such services.

"The use of the digital platform in business will not only improve the halal industry development in Sabah but will also ensure residents in the state are not left behind in grabbing the opportunities through technology expansion, he said.

He said this to reporters after welcoming the visit by Synxsoft led by its chief executive officer Mazrie Mahat here, today.

Elaborating further, Yakub said the CoreHalal digital platform will provide guidelines to entrepreneurs on the process of obtaining halal recognition and assist in increasing their halal business efficiency digitally.

"This is because this platform not only focuses on the food and beverage sector but also includes all sectors listed under the halal industry such as pharmaceutical, consumer goods and cosmetics," he added.

Yakub said the state government will continue to support CoreHalal to enable it to cooperate with strategic partners not only in Malaysia but also overseas such as Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Brunei.

Meanwhile, Mazrie said the ministry plans to expand the CoreHalal platform market to Australia in September and Japan in October.

"Hopefully, such an initiative would give inspiration to the local technology startups in Sabah to progress and expand their market to the global level.

"On Sept 1, Synxsoft will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Halal Development Corporation during the World Halal Business Conference 2022 in Melbourne, Australia," he added.
