GEORGE TOWN, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Aviation Group (MAG) partners local designer Kenny Loh to launch a limited-edition beaded shoe collection through sustainable efforts today to preserve the history and heritage of the Baba Nyonya culture.

Group chief sustainability officer of MAG Philip See said MAG is pleased to collaborate with Kenny Loh to jointly reduce waste while educating the newer generation on the local craft scene and its artisans.

“Designers like Kenny Loh has inspired everyone all around us that we all have a role to play towards sustainability in this country and across the planet.

“We at MAG believe that our customers should be able to enjoy the finer things in life while remaining conscious of our role in caring for the planet," said See, who is also the Firefly Airlines chief executive officer at the launch of the collection here today.

However, the founder of Kenny Loh Corture said the beaded shoes feature a unique blend of skilled  heritage craftsmanship using upcycled materials from Malaysia Airlines' iconic batik kebaya.

Loh said it took him and his team of more than five persons six months to complete producing 72 pairs of the beaded shoes.

“I used 10 sets of upcycled fabric from the iconic Malaysia Airlines kebaya and 2,000 beads each to complete the handcrafted shoes,” he said.

He added that the 72 pairs of shoes come in a range of size from EU 37 to 41 and they also come in three different colours such as green for Penang, red for Singapore and blue for Melaka as they represent the three settlements of the Peranakan Community in Peninsular Malaysia.

The exclusive 72 beaded shoes will also be made available on MAG’s travel, lifestyle and e-commerce platform Journify at myjournify.com at 10 per cent discount for members.
