PruBSN allocates RM2.4 mln in takaful protection for poor, hardcore poor

01/08/2022 09:44 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad (PruBSN) through its charitable arm, PruBSN Prihatin, has allocated RM2.4 million this year in providing basic takaful protection for poor and hardcore poor households across the nation.

According to a statement from PruBSN, distribution of the complementary coverage will be done via PruBSN’s main corporate social responsibility programme, PruBSN Microtakaful Jariyah, in collaboration with the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister’s Department.

“Entering its fifth year of operation, this initiative is one of PruBSN Prihatin’s focus to support the health and wellbeing of the families and communities,” the statement said, adding that such an initiative was set to take place this month.

“The PruBSN Microtakaful Jariyah protection provides one-year complimentary basic takaful coverage worth RM10,000 for the heads of household, of which the beneficiary/beneficiaries will receive RM10,000 in death compensation in the event their family breadwinner passes away.

“Unlike any other normal takaful product, this innovative product does not require any medical examination. Aside from that, the death compensation will also be channelled directly to the beneficiary’s bank account,” it added.

PruBSN chief executive officer, Wan Saifulrizal Wan Ismail said PruBSN placed great emphasis on ensuring that all Malaysians, especially the impoverished households were well protected, should any unforeseen circumstances befall upon them.

"The end goal is to be able to make a difference in society and build a stronger community. The overall PruBSN Microtakaful Jariyah 2022 plan involves 30,000 recipients which is divided into three tranches of distribution.

“The first tranche began on March 15, this year involving recipients in the central zone, made up of Labuan, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor while the second tranche involves 15,000 recipients across five states, namely, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.

“PruBSN is targeted to roll out the third tranche in November this year which will focus on recipients in the northern and east coast zone, which includes Perak, Penang, Kedah, Perlis, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan.

“Since the start of this initiative in 2018, we (PruBSN) had disbursed free takaful coverage to 78,527 recipients with another 30,000 planned for this year,” he added.

Meanwhile, ICU director-general, Datuk Ruji Ubi said ICU was committed to implementing poverty eradication programmes to achieve zero hardcore poverty by 2025 while providing a decent standard of living to all citizens.

"This strategic partnership with PruBSN for the Microtakaful Jariyah initiative is seen to have a huge impact on impoverished communities and we hope to continue working together to provide certainty to Malaysians in need,” he said.

In Terengganu, one of the beneficiaries of the compensation following the demise of her husband shared that her late husband submitted the nomination form just a month before his passing and the financial assistance was a great relief to manage her financial burden smoothly.

PruBSN said all recipients comprised poor and hardcore poor households registered under the eKasih system and the programme being mainly funded by the PruBSN zakat fund at zero cost for the recipients.

PruBSN works hand in hand with its staff, customers and agency force through the Ihsan Rider, Giving @ Workplace and One Donation, One Family programme that helps to fund the Microtakaful Jariyah.

“Through Ihsan Rider, PruBSN  provides a platform for customers to protect the needy, while also protecting their loved ones through monthly donations of as low as RM5 per month and such initiative allows the customers to take a portion of their total monthly takaful contribution to be channelled to PruBSN Microtakaful Jariyah.

“Through these engagements and initiatives, PruBSN plays its part as a socially responsible organisation that creates awareness and opportunities for its staff, agents, customers and public to serve others,” it said in the statement.
