UMW TOYOTA, UMW HOLDINGS COMMIT TO ACHIEVE CARBON NEUTRALITY BY 2050
KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd and UMW Holdings Bhd are committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 through activities that offset carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
In a statement today, director of customer first group Faraed Mohd Sharif said the initiatives, notably planting close to 40,000 trees to date to reach their commitment of planting some 300,000 trees over the next two years, contribute to climate resilience while cementing Toyota’s global commitment towards achieving carbon neutrality within 28 years.
“Moving forward, we are focused on providing ‘Mobility For All’, by supporting the creation of more independent, safe and eco-friendly mobility solutions.
“These are in line with Toyota's local mass manufacturing plans towards a ‘clean, safe and secure society’,” he said, in conjunction with UMW’s Green Shoots Initiative (UGS) programme, in tandem with the National 100 million Tree-Planting Campaign 2020-2025.
In their journey toward offsetting CO2 emissions and realising their zero-carbon goals, UMW Toyota and UMW Holdings said 50 per cent of the planted trees are mangrove trees.
Faraed added that UMW Toyota will continue its active participation with sustainable tree-planting activities in two more locations this year.
“This is part of the UGS initiative to inspire more environmental conservation and restoration works within communities,” he said.
