KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) has opened a new office in Sarawak to expand its professional industrial relations (IR) and human resource (HR) consultancy services to employers in the state.
Vice-president Anne Kung said the opening of the new office signifies the federation’s commitment to continue building a bigger presence among the employers’ community in Sarawak, recognising the state’s potential in terms of attracting high-value investments for continued economic growth.
In a statement today, she said although MEF had established its office in Kuching in 2007, Sarawak-based companies represent less than three per cent of total MEF membership.
“Thus for MEF, Sarawak is a huge untapped market and we are also looking closely at Miri and Bintulu for possible future expansion of our activities," she said.
Kung noted that Sarawak has the potential for high-value economic growth with its rich natural and human resources.
“Sarawak’s improving digital infrastructure that extends deep into the rural areas, ample renewable energy supply and construction of new connections such as the Pan Borneo Highway, have allowed Sarawak to position itself as an attractive destination for high-value investments.
“The relocation of Indonesia’s administrative capital to Nusantara in the East Kalimantan Province of Borneo could also create positive spin-offs for Sarawak in the long term," she said.
Kung added that the positive overall outlook for Sarawak would generate greater demand from employers seeking professional IR and HR consultancy services provided by MEF’s team of in-house experts.
