Gamuda bags RM1.97 bln contract to undertake Sg Rasau water supply project

KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 (Bernama) -- Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd has awarded the Sungai Rasau Water Supply Scheme (Stage 1) project, valued at RM1.97 billion, to Gamuda Bhd.

The engineering and construction group said it had received a letter of acceptance for the proposed project, making it the main contractor for building a water treatment plant with a capacity of 700 million litres per day (MLD) near Tanjung Dua Belas as well as an intake structure of a 1,400 MLD capacity to draw augmented raw water from ex-mining ponds at Taman Putra Permai, Puchong.

“The project will help solve the issue of low water supply reserve margin shortage faced by the residents in Klang, and Selangor in general, once completed,” it said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today.

Gamuda said the project, which also involved constructing two overhead bridges crossing the Elite Highway and South Klang Valley Expressway, would begin on July 15 this year and be completed by June 30, 2025.

It said the project was expected to contribute positively to the group’s revenue and earnings for the financial year ending July 31, 2023.

The main risks, it added, would be the currency risk which might affect the cost of imported materials and equipment as well as fluctuation in prices of construction materials and the current tight labour market situation.
