SHANGRI-LA HOTELS APPOINTS CHAN KONG LEONG AS NEW MD
KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- Shangri-La Hotels (Malaysia) Bhd has appointed Chan Kong Leong as its new managing director (MD), effective from the conclusion of the company’s 51st annual general meeting (AGM) to be held on June 30, 2022.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the hotel operator said Chan, a 49-year-old Singaporean, would succeed Kuok Oon Kwong, the niece of business tycoon Robert Kuok, who had decided not to stand for re-election at the company’s 51st AGM.
It said Kuok would accordingly retire from the board and her role as MD at the conclusion of the AGM after having served as a board director since November 1996 and as the company’s MD for over 23 years.
“Chan joined the board of Shangri-La Hotels on May 18, 2022 as a non-independent non-executive director.
“With his appointment, Chan will be re-designated as the MD of the company,” it said.
According to the company, Chan brought strong leadership and commercial acumen, alongside a wealth of industry business experience and knowledge to the role of MD.
“He is well placed to lead the company through the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and drive the company’s future growth,” it added.
