KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and Singapore Management University (SMU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen, promote and develop academic, research and exchange activities.

Through the MoU, both parties aim to work together in academic and research programmes as well as staff and student exchange.

In addition, both institutions have agreed on joint organising of courses, workshops, conferences, study visits, seminars, symposia, attachment programmes/internships and lectures.

UTP vice-chancellor Prof Ts Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said UTP was delighted to be working with SMU to promote their mutual interest in advancing academic-research collaboration.

“This MoU is part of our aim to work with academic institutions in the region who are innovative and share the same agenda to deliver excellence in education.

“Through this partnership, we also hope to expand and enhance UTP’s network of academic partners in Singapore as well as in the region to advance mutual progress,” he said in a statement here today.

Mohamed Ibrahim added the MoU is a testament to UTP's continuous effort in realising its aspiration to become a prominent internationally recognised higher learning institution by collaborating with world-class institutions such as SMU.

The MoU was inked by President Prof Lily Kong on behalf of SMU, while Mohamed Ibrahim represented UTP.

The signing also was witnessed by UTP Chancellor Tan Sri Dr Mohd Hassan Marican, who is also the Chair of SMU Industry Advisory Council Malaysia.
