KUCHING, June 13 (Bernama) -- Sarawak will host the Global Muslim Business Forum 2022 in October this year.

The conference, themed “The Rise of the Global Islamic Economy: Refocusing, Resetting and Recovering in the Post-Pandemic Era”, will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching, from Oct 19-20.

The conference is aimed to promote dialogues and discourses on the global Islamic economy while encouraging multi-stakeholders collaboration between governments, businesses and civil societies, the organising committee said in a statement today.

Heads of state, leaders and key business figures from various Muslim countries, particularly from the Asian region will be invited to deliver their keynote addresses.

The event will be held in a hybrid format that would combine an in-person event with online components, where participants would be able to choose to participate either in person or virtually, while speakers who would be able to present physically at the venue would be streamed live in the session.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also the forum’s organising chairman, said the event would highlight the launching of the Global Muslim Business Leaders Council to promote greater cooperation among Muslim businesses, particularly after the worldwide pandemic.

“There will also be an awards ceremony for business excellence and lifetime achievement during the gala dinner and business networking and matching session.

“It would also highlight Sarawak’s strengths in renewable energy and new economies such as hydrogen production and the petrochemical sector,” he said.

More than 1,500 international and domestic participants would be involved in the event, which includes Sarawak’s small and medium enterprises, to form strategic alliances with the international business community, he added.
