KASPERSKY's anti-phishing system blocked a total of 11.26 million phishing links in Southeast Asia, with most of them blocked on devices of Kaspersky users in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Its general manager for Southeast Asia Yeo Siang Tiong said this is “just the tip of the iceberg” with “emails as an effective and lucrative entry point.”

Cyber criminals took advantage of the seismic shift in digital habits during the pandemic to launch social engineering attacks such as phishing emails, he said.

Kaspersky’s data showed that the chances of unsuspected users clicking infected links or malicious attachments increase tremendously with hot topics and phrases related to shopping, streaming entertainment or the COVID-19 pandemic.
