03/06/2022 06:17 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 (Bernama) -- MISC Bhd has appointed Captain Rajalingam Subramaniam as group president and group chief executive officer (CEO), effective Oct 1, 2022, replacing Datuk Yee Yang Chien who will be retiring on Sept 30, 2022.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, MISC said Yee, who is the current group president and group CEO, has opted for retirement following a career in the maritime industry spanning over 20 years, in various leadership roles within the group, the last being his current role which he held since 2015.

“During his tenure, Yee has steered MISC’s transformation into a formidable and resilient international maritime conglomerate and led the strategisation in streamlining the group’s business portfolio to deliver energy-related maritime solutions and services,” it said.

The group said Yee has achieved numerous international recognitions during his tenure, most notably as the top 10 prominent leaders in the Lloyd’s Power List 2018 for oil and gas shipping.

Since 2015, he has been consecutively listed among the top 50 most influential global maritime industry leaders in the Lloyd’s List Top 100 People in Shipping.

“Captain Rajalingam began his career at sea and came ashore in 1996, and has since held various positions in the MISC Group, which included vice-president, fleet management services of MISC Bhd in 2008 before being appointed as president & CEO of tanker operator AET in 2016,” it said.

In a separate statement, Yee expressed his confidence that the group is well-positioned for continued success and drive sustainable progress in the maritime industry under the leadership of Captain Rajalingam who is currently MISC’s chief operating officer and AET’s president and CEO.

“His appointment demonstrates the strength and sustainability of MISC Group’s talent development and leadership succession plans and I wish him the very best,” he said.

Meanwhile, Captain Rajalingam said the maritime industry is undergoing one of the most transformative periods, unlike anything seen before, with sustainability as the vital force that is shaping the industry’s future.

“The group has always been championing sustainability in driving progress and value creation, and I am excited for the challenges we will be tackling together as well as the opportunities that we can explore further,” he added.
