KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) has channelled RM980 million in financing to micro entrepreneurs from January to May this year.

Its managing director Mohamed Shamir Abdul Aziz said the number was 45 per cent of the target set for this year.

“We expect by the end of this year to disburse RM2.4 billion in funding and it is targeted to help 340,000 ‘sahabat’ (friends) of micro entrepreneurs,” he said.

He said this when met at the AIM Aidilfitri open house today which was also attended by the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Tan Sri Noh Omar.

According to Mohamed Shamir, as the country faced the COVID-19 pandemic, AIM had given a nine-month moratorium to micro entrepreneurs to help ease their burden.

About 1,500 people including 40 orphans from Rumah Kasih Harmoni, Paya Jaras attended today's open house.
