SILVERLAKE AXIS (SAL) LTD, a Singapore-listed software solutions provider, has appointed Goh Shiou Ling as its deputy chief executive officer (CEO), effective May 1, 2022.

Group managing director Andrew Tan Teik Wei said Goh has been on the SAL board since June 1, 2015, and was designated as executive director in April 2018, with responsibility for strategic acquisitions and investments.

"During her tenure as executive director, she restructured and led the group’s mergers and acquisition function and enhanced value for the group. She was appointed as a member of the strategic investment committee in 2019 and appointed chairman in 2020," he said in a statement.

GDS HOLDINGS LTD, a leading developer and operator of high performance data centres in China, has announced the start of construction of its hyper-scale data centre campus in Nusajaya, Johor. 

The development of this project is supported by the Digital Investments Office, a collaborative platform between the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).

MDEC chief executive officer Mahadhir Aziz said GDS’s presence in Malaysia and the construction of the hyper-scale data centre will have a major positive effect on the development of Malaysia’s digital economy. 

“The new centre signifies Malaysia’s competitive advantage in attracting data centre investments, in line with our aspirations under the Malaysia Digital initiative. It also brings with it the world-class infrastructure capabilities that will further strengthen Malaysia as the digital hub of ASEAN,” said Mahadhir in a statement.

ASTRO has launched its standalone fibre broadband, Astro Fibre, transitioning the group into a full internet service provider (ISP).

This transformative move builds on the launch of WiFi KENCANG, Astro’s first-ever Fibre broadband bundled with its content and Mesh WiFi, creating a one-stop home entertainment and internet solution for its customers.

Astro chief executive officer of TV and group chief operating officer Euan Smith said the all-new Astro experience is about giving customers what they’ve been asking for – all their favourite entertainment including premium Astro originals, live sports, international content and multiple streaming services, on the television screen and personal devices. 

"Our broadband customer base grew 58 per cent year-on-year as more customers see the value and convenience of bundled broadband with Astro contents,” Smith said in a statement today.

ALIBABA DAMO ACADEMY, the global research initiative by Alibaba Group, announced it has made the source code of its latest federated learning platform, FederatedScope, a comprehensive platform with easy-to-use packages, accessible to the open-source community.

Alibaba DAMO Academy research scientist Bolin Ding said by sharing its self-developed federated learning technologies with the open-source community, it hopes to promote the research and industrial deployment of privacy-preserving computation in different sectors, such as healthcare and smart mobility that usually involves sensitive user data and requires strict privacy protection practices.

"In addition, with a newly implemented event-driven framework, FederatedScope provides flexible support and comprehensive tools. We believe privacy-preserving computation is an important and essential trend.

“We hope that by sharing our source codes and technology platform, we can support global developers in the community and encourage more innovation in this emerging field,” Ding added in a statement.
