SINGAPORE, Jan 27 -- Three companies from three nations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development and supply of low-carbon electricity, storage and intermittency management solutions, as well as the pursuit of opportunities in ASEAN grid interconnectivity.

They are Singapore’s Keppel Infrastructure Holdings Pte Ltd; Thailand-based Impact Electrons Siam Co Ltd; and China’s Envision Group.

“Riding on the recent signing of the exclusive framework agreement to study the feasibility of cross-border power trade from Laos to Singapore, which is part of the Laos-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP), we are excited to work with Envision and Impact Electrons on this collaboration.

“Developing large-scale renewable energy for cross-border power trade in the region will be a significant step towards promoting greater energy security by diversifying energy supply sources as well as contributing to ASEAN’s plan for a sustainable energy future,” said Keppel Infrastructure’s chief executive officer, Cindy Lim in a statement on Wednesday.

The MoU will see the three parties leverage Impact Electrons’ exclusive development rights issued by the Government of Laos to increase the capacity of the current 600 megawatts (MW) Monsoon Wind Power Project -- which Impact Electrons is developing in the Sekong and Attapeu provinces in Laos -- by an additional 1,000MW.

Targeted for commercial operations by 2025, the iconic Monsoon project will be the largest wind farm in ASEAN.

The project, including the expansion, could offset over 90 million tonnes of carbon dioxide throughout its lifetime.

Keppel Infrastructure has a track record of developing end-to-end energy and environmental infrastructure, including power generation assets, waste-to-energy (WTE) facilities, large-scale district cooling systems, as well as NEWater and desalination plants.

Impact Electrons is a pioneering renewable energy (RE) development firm with over 1,900 MW of wind and solar energy projects in development and operation in Thailand, Japan, Laos, and Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Envision Group is a world-leading green technology company that joined the global ‘RE100’ initiative and became the first company in mainland China committed to 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2025.
