SWM Environment launches post-flood clean-up operation in Melaka

MELAKA, Dec 23  -- Solid waste management and public cleansing service provider SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment) has launched the post-flood clean-up operation in 11 areas in Alor Gajah and Melaka Tengah.

SWM Environment Corporate Affairs general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said in Alor Gajah, the areas involved were Taman Wira Indah, Pekan Lubok Cina, Taman Seri Bayu 2 and Lubok Cina police station.

He said in Melaka Tengah, the operation would be carried out in Kampung Morten, Taman Melaka Baru, Taman Bukit Beruang Bistari, Taman Melawis, Taman Murai Jaya, Taman Angkasa Nuri and Taman Merdeka Jaya.

“Carried out under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, the operation which involves 62 staff and 16 assets comprising three 16-tonnne roll on roll off (RORO) trucks, five water jet trucks, five ultra whack trucks as well as three bulldozers focuses on bulk waste collection and drain cleaning works.

“The cean-up works need to be done immediately to keep waste from piling up which can cause other problems such the spread of other diseases and bad odour as well as for the comfort of the affected residents,” he said.

Mohd Norlisam SWM Environment sought the cooperation of the affected residents to place flood waste such as damaged furniture in front of their house or in easily accessible locations.

He said the company had also placed wheelie bins at a relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Durian Tunggal, Alor Gajah to ensure cleanliness in the area.
