KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9  -- Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) has approved a final investment decision (FID) for the construction of a new compressor station in Kluang, Johor, at a cost of about RM460 million.

In a statement, the company said works will commence immediately and are estimated to be completed and commissioned in the first quarter of 2024.

“The additional capacity resulting from this project is aimed to spur the growth of gas demand in Malaysia’s southern region from various industries and provide security of supply to the existing gas users in this region as a cleaner source of energy,” said managing director and chief executive officer Abdul Aziz Othman.

The project will be undertaken by PGB’s gas transportation business as an expansion to the facilities in Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) network.

PGB said it continues to make good progress in furthering its business growth especially with this project FID achieved.
