NCER WELCOMES INVESTORS WITH INCENTIVES, BUSINESS-FRIENDLY POLICIES

DUBAI, Nov 22 -- The Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) is opening its doors for investments again in the post-pandemic era by offering investor-friendly incentives under the robust and business-friendly Malaysian government policies.

Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) chief operating officer Hasri Hasan said NCER is an ideal investment and trade destination complete with a sustainable economic ecosystem to support investors looking to expand or establish their business and operations in Malaysia.

"The NCER boasts excellent infrastructures such as road connectivity, airports, seaports and inland ports. The region also possesses an established ecosystem, with existing public-private partnerships and attractive fiscal incentives that continue to attract strategic investment partners," he said in a speech during the Expo 2020 here today.

NCIA, led by Hasri, is participating in the World Expo 2020 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), from Nov 21-27, to showcase trade and investment opportunities in the NCER.

Earlier, Malaysia’s Ambassador to the UAE Mohd Tarid Sufian officiated the Week 8 @Expo 2020 Dubai at the Malaysia Pavilion.

Hasri, who is head of a delegation from Malaysia which also comprises 10 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in NCER, said two prime industrial parks in NCER -- the Kedah Rubber City (KRC) in Kedah and the Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA) in Perlis -- are now ready and offering attractive amenities, utilities and opportunities to both local and foreign investors.

He said KRC and CVIA are also poised to play pivotal roles in strengthening regional cooperation in the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT).

"With an established and efficient supply chain and integrated logistics solution, investors can also take advantage of the network of surrounding industries, relevant supporting functions and institutions of higher learning," he said.

However, Hasri said, despite the onset of the pandemic, NCER has retained its socioeconomic resilience and is currently focused on talent development in strategic and high-impact industries.

"We achieved this through the implementation of strategic high-impact projects, expansion of the region’s job sectors, strengthening the overall talent ecosystem, and increasing economic activities to hasten the region’s socioeconomic recovery," he said.

Hasri explained that to ensure the socioeconomic recovery of the NCER post-pandemic, NCIA has designed holistic and integrated people-centric human capital programmes.

These programmes, he said, are designed to benefit those who lost their jobs, unemployed graduates and businesses that are looking to expand their operations.

"NCER through its human capital programmes also facilitates in the development of local entrepreneurs to become international players. We have brought along with us 10 of such entrepreneurs from the region who are here to showcase their innovative and high-quality products which are export-ready," he said.

Among the highlights of the Week 8 @Expo 2020 Dubai are an NCER investment forum, “NCER: Your Preferred Investment Destination in Malaysia”, ASEAN Business Matching and Pocket Talks.

Malaysia is one of the 192 countries and organisations participating in Expo 2020 Dubai.

Themed “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, the expo runs from Oct 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022.
