DF AUTOMATION AND ROBOTICS EYEING INDIAN, SINGAPORE ROBOTICS MARKETS

30/10/2021 05:06 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 30  -- DF Automation and Robotics Sdn Bhd is eyeing opportunities in India and Singapore to market its products, capitalising on high potential and demand in the two countries.

Director Dr Yeong Che Fai said the company plans to improve its presence in the markets of both countries within the next six months.

He said based on statistics from World Robotics, India recorded a continuous increase in terms of robotics usage while Singapore also registered a high robot density usage.

"Because of that, we plan to increase our presence in these two countries -- India and Singapore," he said when met at DF Automation and Robotics’ factory in Taman Impian Emas, here today.

Earlier, a delegation from the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), led by MTDC chief executive officer Datuk Norhalim Yunus, was taken on a tour of DF Automation and Robotics’ facilities and attended a briefing on the company's latest products and technologies.

Yeong said in the wake of the pandemic, there was a high demand from the warehousing and logistics sectors due to manpower shortages and enhanced standard operating procedures

“Actually, we see a robotics segment is very necessary in our industry, especially in warehousing and logistics. This year and next year, for example, we see there is a lot of demand to lift pallets weighing up to one to two tonnes," he added.

Yeong said besides, the potential of robotics could also be seen in other sectors and industries such as manufacturing and services.

"If we were to look at the automobile robotics market, it can reach US$222 billion by 2025. This is a huge market.

“Automobile robotics is not just for one industry but can expand into manufacturing, warehouse services and more. That’s why we want to be in this segment and I think it's also important for Malaysia to have this technology," he said.

The MTDC ecosystem company has so far sold over 300 robots in various countries and has registered over 10 patents.

Meanwhile, Norhalim said MTDC has always worked with local companies in ensuring continued development in the local robotics industry.

"In this context, we try to develop as many local robotics companies as possible. At MOSTI and MTDC, we work with these local robotics companies to enable them to get funds and investments and we have also invested in these companies several times.

“We also want to encourage cooperation as you can’t do everything yourself," he said.
