KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 -- Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), through Yayasan Tenaga Nasional (YTN), has awarded scholarships worth RM35 million to 93 outstanding students for the September 2021 intake.

In a statement, the utility giant said that since its inception in 1993, it has contributed over RM1.2 billion in the form of My Brighter Future (MyBF) Bursary (RM66 million), scholarships (RM597 million) and convertible loans (RM547 million) to more than 18,500 students.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan regarded the initiative  as a manifestation of TNB’s close relationship with the rakyat.

“I understand that TNB through YTN has contributed RM426 million in the Regulatory Period 2 (RP2) from 2018 to July 2021 for scholarships, convertible loans and MyBF Bursary,” he said in the statement issued in conjunction of the YTN scholarship award ceremony last Friday.

Takiyuddin said TNB’s education initiatives have been really helpful in supporting the government to improve the quality of life of the rakyat, especially students from the lower income group B40. Hence, the beneficiaries will have to make full use of the scholarship awarded by the utility company.

TNB said the 93 academically excellent students chosen, who will pursue their studies at local and overseas universities, have sound leadership qualities and are active in co-curricular activities.

They were seleted from among 8,400 applicants who sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia in 2020.

Twenty beneficiaries will pursue their degree in electrical power engineering, accounting/finance, or data science and analytics abroad.

The other 73 students will further their studies in electrical power engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, finance, business, or accounting at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).
