IPOH, Oct 4  -- The Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) has attracted high-impact investments worth a total of RM2.34 billion from a number of companies, creating 4,400 new job opportunities which will drive Perak’s socioeconomic recovery.

Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said the investments were from Eco Medi Glove Sdn Bhd, Onetexx Sdn Bhd, PNA Technologies Sdn Bhd, HICOM-Teck See Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd and Dynacare Sdn Bhd.

“The NCIA has forged closer cooperation with the state government in planning, implementing and coordinating development in areas that are less developed such as Kamunting, Kampung Gajah, Tanjung Malim and Sitiawan.

“These investments could improve the local economic growth and contribute to Perak’s economic recovery,” he said after chairing the virtual State Steering Committee meeting, here, today.

Saarani said to hasten the economic recovery process following the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government would continue to draw strategic and high-impact investments that could provide more employment opportunities in driving the economy.

At the meeting, Saarani also witnessed the virtual Perak State Investment Commitment ceremony involving State Secretary, Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim; state Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman, Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya and Deputy Secretary-General (Finance and Development), Prime Miniaster's Department, Datuk Sollehuddin Alyubi Zakaria.

Saarani said the state government encouraged high-value investment in the manufacturing and services sectors, especially in research and development (R&D) activities, digitalisation and adoption of new technology in line with the Perak Development Plan 2040.

“Perak needs to focus on the manufacturing of electrical, electronic, optical and rubber products, especially gloves.

“This is because Perak has the advantage in these industries compared to the other states. Promoting investment in Perak needs to be widened for it to be the focus for investments in the country,” he added.

Meanwhile, NCIA chief executive, Datuk Seri Jebasingan Issace John said to ensure Perak remained stable in socioeconomic growth, the agency would remain committed to implementing human resource development programmes that were inclusive, holistic and people-centred in driving the people’s socioeconomic development.

In tackling the COVID-19 impact, Jebasingan said the NCIA had implemented two fast-track programmes, namely, JomKerja@NCER and JomNiaga@NCER, with both programmes until now having created over 2,100 job opportunities and new entrepreneurs in Perak.

“The NCIA with continue with efforts to attract high-impact investments and implementing holistic human capital enhancement programmes, in line with the 12th Malaysia Plan for the people’s well-being and prosperity through raising their purchasing power, narrowing the socio-economic gap and ensuring their survival,” he added.
