KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 -- Asia’s leading buy now pay later (BNPL) brand Atome’s order volume in Malaysia has grown by 100 times in the first half of 2021 following rapid demand for its flexible payment option.

In a statement, the company said 95 per cent of orders came from online channels such as merchants’ e-commerce websites or mobile apps.

Atome Singapore and Malaysia general manager Trasy Lou Walsh said its strong growth in Malaysia speaks to the value that Atome are delivering, helping merchants grow their business, driving new leads and sales amid the challenging times.

“Atome also provides consumers with zero-interest payment flexibility to help budget their spending and purchases responsibly over time.

“We also have exciting plans to support our merchant partners, such as the launch of our Atome+ rewards programme, which also rewards consumers even as they shop smarter and better with our merchant network," she said.

To date, Atome online and offline merchant network has served more than 500 retailers, a 500 per cent increase from when it was first launched in Malaysia in the last quarter of 2020 with over 100 merchant partners.

The rapid growth comes against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and the extension of the Movement Control Order which has seen local retailers struggle.

With Atome, retailers have improved their cash flow and online sales growth as well as increase their average ticket order size, with an average of 17 per cent increase since adding Atome as a payment checkout option.
