CERTIFICATION KEY IN PENETRATING MAJOR EXPORT MARKETS -- TURNKEY GROUP CEO

14/07/2021 03:20 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 -- Certification is a key element for companies that want to penetrate major global export markets and meet their sustainability standards, said the chief executive officer and founder of Turnkey Group Tony Wines.

Wines said companies must be able to have real transparency in their business to be successful exporters in key markets.

“There are many types of certification for businesses out there and I think we need to at least address one of them. The good thing is that getting a certification now is not a massively, costly exercise and it is to ensure that the information the company is advertising is accurate and transparent,” he said during the third panel session on the second day of the eNational Export Day (eNED) 2021 today.

He added that if companies take a strong stand on creating the right key performance indicator (KPI) and measure it accurately and effectively, they would do well in the competitive global marketplace.

“It looks like a complicated roadmap and there are a lot of challenges along the way but looking at the most important areas of the business, companies could get the best gains and showcase the improvements for the business itself,” he said.

Meanwhile, Navis Capital Partners director of environmental and social Emma Biddles said that without certification, companies could be limited in terms of the market that they can export to.

Biddles noted that one of Navis’ invested food manufacturing companies in Malaysia has now adopted the certification protocol by the Small and Medium Enterprises Association (SAMENTA).

“The process itself identified several areas the company could improve on so they could then supply to certain customers that they have been talking to in various markets. If they did not adopt the certification, they would not be able to access those markets.

“I think that highlights the benefits of the certification levels but the types of certification that you opt for depend on the type of industry sector you are in,” she said.
