PERTAMA DIGITAL SUBMITS APPLICATION FOR DIGITAL BANK LICENCE TO BNM
KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 -- Pertama Digital Bhd today announced it has submitted an application for digital bank licence to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia, it said the Pertama Digital consortium envisaged its Islamic digital bank would place the financially unserved and underserved customers at its heart.
"The digital bank aims to sustainably provide affordable and ethical financing products, while hand holding the B40 and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to nurture good financial management, pouring rocket fuel into post-pandemic productivity," it said.
To recap, Pertama Digital has expressed an interest to apply for a digital bank licence on April 23, 2021 and have been in advanced joint-venture talks to pursue the licence from the central bank.
On May 24, it secured Crowdo Holdings Pte Ltd, an SME-focused neobank for emerging ASEAN markets, as consortium partner before subsequently securing INFOPRO Sdn Bhd as its partner on June 1.
The company later announced a collaboration with financial inclusion ecosystem players namely Trevo, Paywatch, Qoala, and Butterfly FX on June 9.
Pertama Digital then established a joint exploration of alternative credit scoring solutions with Experian on June 18, as well as securing financial strength support from Labuan offshore bank, Perfect Hexagon Commodity and Investment Bank Limited, and information and communications company Alsirat Sdn Bhd as investors on June 24.
