05/04/2021 05:23 PM

PUTRAJAYA, April 5 -- Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (PNS) is targeting to transform 20 local micro enterprises into franchise businesses under the Business In-Transformation (BIT) programme this year.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said PNS representatives in every state will identify the products and services with the potential to be transformed into a franchise business.

“There are more products and services produced by local entrepreneurs that are eligible to be franchised but have not done so," he told the media after officiating BIT Expo 2021 (BITe 2021) here, today.

Wan Junaidi said through the BIT programme, small traders would be guided in areas such as upgrading their business in terms of image, service quality, and business concept.

He said the franchise system provided by PNS would not only focus on big business but also on micro business.

“This system is easy and it can assist in elevating the business to a higher level,” he said.

Meanwhile, PNS chairman Datuk Zakaria Mohd Edris in his speech said 130 small traders have participated in the BIT programme since it was introduced in 2013, with PNS having funded RM6.14 million for pre-franchisor and pre-franchisee entrepreneurs who have participated in the programme.

“Participation of micro entrepreneurs in the BIT programme has produced 1,441 pre-franchisees, creating more than 2,000 new job opportunities.

"This positive development has shown that many small traders are keen to see their business succeed in order to compete with more successful and competitive businesses,” he said.

Through the BIT programme, he said, PNS will identify the small traders to undergo  business transformation and modernisation so that they can compete in the market, besides being developed into the franchise business.

“The process of producing franchisor and franchisee have to be given attention in view that franchising is one of the industries that can drive the nation’s economy.

“Besides providing financing, training, guidance, and consultation, PNS also offers various types of schemes and programmes to assist entrepreneurs to expand and strengthen their franchise business,” he said.

On BITe, Zakaria said the one-day programme, attended by 500 participants and 39 exhibitors nationwide, was aimed at promoting the BIT programme, as well as giving business opportunities to the community.
