STATOS INVITES SARAWAK FOOD PRODUCERS TO GRAB TRADE OPPORTUNITIES IN SINGAPORE

18/03/2021 01:48 PM

KUCHING, March 18 -- The Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) has called on large and small Sarawak food manufacturers to register their products with the agency and grab trade opportunities in the republic.

STATOS chief executive officer Chiew Chang Guan in a statement today said Singapore food importers had shown tremendous interest for fresh and processed products from Sarawak, whereby both Sarawakians and Singaporeans share similar food tastes.

“This is why STATOS strongly encourages Sarawak-based food producers to contact us and try to grab the trade opportunities in Singapore, with the help of our free business and marketing services. We pledge to work with and help Sarawakian companies that seek international success,” he said.

The services offered by the agency include introducing proactive Sarawak entrepreneurs to potential buyers and importers from Singapore, while helping them to achieve market acceptance for their export-ready products.

“Exporting products to another country can be quite challenging at first, which is why STATOS is keen to help homegrown companies to ‘go international’. We can assist to eradicate or ease this barrier to export trade.

“Food businesses need to know what products are in demand in Singapore or where there are joint-venture opportunities. We are here to guide you once you have registered with the office,” he said.

Chiew added that when travel permits, STATOS will resume site inspection by bringing importers from Singapore to Sarawak to meet entrepreneurs in the state registered with the office, touring their production sites and discuss joint-venture opportunities.

To date, the top in-demand services are online business matching for Sarawak companies to meet potential Singapore buyers, advice on product certifications, marketing, business processes in Singapore, webinars, and sharing sessions on how to be export-ready.

STATOS and the Sarawak Business Federation will also be coming up with a webinar on ‘Exporting Sarawak Food Products to Singapore - What You Need to Know’ on April 28. More information can be obtained at STATOS website at www.statos.com.sg.
