KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 -- Sunway’s corporate responsibility initiative brought cheer to some 230 beneficiaries from various children’s homes in Perak during the Chinese New Year with the distribution of festive goodies, essential groceries, and Information and communications technology (ICT) equipment and services.

As part of the #SunwayforGood initiative umbrella, the Sunway LINE (Learn. Innovate. Nurture. Evolve.) initiative gave out seven laptops and one year’s worth of WIFI to the homes to ensure the children have access to quality education.

The eight homes are Salvation Army Boys Home, Rumah Anak-anak Yatim dan Miskin "Anning", Vision Home, Precious Gift Orphanage Society, Pertubuhan Pengurusan Pusat Jagaan 1Malaysia, Pusat Jagaan Anak-Anak Yatim dan Miskin Nurul Iman, Hannah Home and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Harapan Baru.

Sunway Group Brand and Marketing Communications group senior general manager Nik Tasha Nik Kamaruddin said the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted vulnerable communities especially the B40.

“As a strong and consistent advocate of sustainable development, we have made a pledge to ensure that no one will be left behind in our pathway to development. We will continuously push our efforts during this time to bring an inclusive future to all,” she said in a statement today.

She said this latest initiative by Sunway aimed to create learning opportunities for underserved children by equipping them with the much-needed information and communications-related equipment or services to continue learning in the new norm.

In addition, the team also brought with them packed lunches, Vitamin C, hand sanitisers, ang pows, festive cookies and school bags.

Meanwhile, since the start of this year, Sunway has donated AEON vouchers of RM100 each via the #SunwayforGood fund to 736 B40 students’ families in Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Sunway to purchase school items and groceries.

It also gave away television sets and furniture to charity homes in the Klang Valley, 2,800 kg of rice to six rice ATM machines via mosques in the Klang Valley, Ipoh, Johor and Penang, and 1,600 packed lunches for the police frontliners in Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya.

Leading up to its 50th anniversary, Sunway has also embarked on a mission to fulfill four pledges by 2024 including to build and refurbish at least 50 libraries through the Sunway READ (Reading Enhances Aspiration and Drive) programme and to pack a total of one million meals for undernourished communities.

Sunway also pledged to set up 50 urban farms for 50 orphanages and to provide basic health screening in partnership with the National Kidney Foundation for 50 Orang Asli communities.

Sunway’s corporate responsibility is encapsulated in the #SunwayforGood initiatives that pledge to promote sustainability and social responsibility efforts through three areas, namely education, healthcare, and community enrichment, aligned with Sunway’s commitment to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
