KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 -- Bursa Malaysia Bhd today contributed RM667,000 zakat payment to the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP).

The exchange said in a statement that the amount represents the total business zakat payment of the Bursa Malaysia Group for the financial year 2020, which was derived from the profits earned that year.

The inaugural zakat payment is part of the exchange’s corporate social responsibility commitment, in line with Bursa Malaysia’s pledge to contribute one per cent of its profit after tax towards community projects that will have a positive change and benefit society.

A zakat contribution presentation ceremony was held at Bursa Malaysia which saw the handing over of zakat by its chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift to PPZ-MAIWP CEO Ahmad Shukri Yusoff, witnessed by Bursa chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and PPZ-MAIWP chairman Datuk Seri Syed Ali Syed Abbas Al-Habshee.

"Despite the ongoing health and economic challenges, we are fortunate to achieve the exceptional financial year 2020.

"For that, we are grateful for the opportunity to channel aid towards the sustainable development of society, especially to the more vulnerable segments of our population,” said Umar.
