MEF ADVISES EMPLOYERS TO ENSURE WORKERS ARE INOCULATED

19/02/2021 07:35 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19  -- The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) has advised employers to ensure that workers who are provided with accommodation in hostels are inoculated against COVID-19.

In a statement today, its president Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman said employers must properly plan the execution so that both the companies’ operations and the inoculation exercise could be done effectively.

He said this in response to the statement by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan on the liability of employers under the Workers Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act (Act 446).

“Employers employing local and foreign workers, including undocumented foreign workers, must make sure that all workers are vaccinated, or risk being fined under Act 446,” Syed Hussain said.

He said MEF supported the view that all parties were equally responsible in the fight to overcome the spread of COVID-19.

“All of MEF members are aware of this responsibility and we are assured that they will carry out the vaccination of workers as required by the government,” he added.
