ARUS RESTU TO BUILD MIST CABLE LANDING STATION IN SELANGOR

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 -- Arus Restu Sdn Bhd (ARSB) has secured a contract from Orient Link Pte Ltd (OLL) to construct a new cable landing station in Selangor to form the “last mile” connection of the mega Myanmar, Malaysia, India Singapore Transit (MIST) cable system.

In a statement today, the communications solutions provider said the 8,100km optical submarine cable system, which would directly connect Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and India, was scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2022.

It is designed to deliver a capacity of over 216 terabits per second to serve the bandwidth growth in Asia.

ARSB noted that MIST cable system was invested by OLL, which is a strategic joint venture between NTT Ltd, Fund Corporation for the Overseas Development of Japan’s ICT and Postal Services Inc and WEN Capital Pte Ltd.

“Whilst this will be the first venture for ARSB, a holder of a network facilities provider licence issued by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, ARSB plans for additional new cables into Malaysia to support the government’s initiatives on Internet-related programmes,” it further explained.

ARSB chief executive officer Rozaimy Rahman said with Malaysians’ huge appetite for bandwidth and for data centre growth, this new city pop to city pop system would allow direct interconnect from Malaysia into those countries served by the cable system.

Meanwhile, OLL CEO Yoshio Sato said the cable system would provide a connection to its clients around the world, delivering high-quality, low-latency networks to Malaysians as the nation charged forward with its digital transformation roadmap.
