STIMULUS PACKAGE WILL GREATLY HELP PEOPLE, BUSINESS COMMUNITY - PERDASAMA

19/01/2021 05:57 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19  -- The government’s latest stimulus package comprising economic incentives coupled with other benefits will greatly help the people and business community impacted by COVID-19, said Malay Traders and Entrepreneurs Association of Malaysia (Perdasama).

Its president Major (Rtd) Datuk Abdull Rahim Saad lauded the government’s decision to provide financial and economic incentives, along with a series of other measures aiming to support the private sector in cushioning the effects of reimposed movement restrictions.

“We must thank and support the government's move as announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.. at least four of the five proposals we highlighted for consideration had been looked into and granted.

“We proposed for some relaxation that the government alleviate the financial burden of entrepreneurs and traders namely to reintroduce the loan moratorium, reduce or eliminate business licence fees, provide business capital assistance, lower monthly electricity tariffs, and reduce monthly Internet subscription fees,” he said.

In a statement today, he said Perdasama acknowledged that the government's incentives were to support the private sector and the country's economy as a whole.

“The initiative also sets an example for other countries.. these initiatives reflect how much the government cares about the people and support the businesses and the economy as a whole,” Abdull Rahim said.

He said Perdasama being a representative of the private sector and owners of businesses, has to be also ready on its part to help the government control and contain the pandemic.

“We have to make our resources available for the government and the people to combat this virus,” he said.

He said private companies as employers are obliged to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Ministry of Health and National Security Council (NSC).

“We must ensure that every individual who works for our companies, follows and adheres to the SOPs so that COVID-19 is well controlled and movement restrictions can be lifted,” he added.
