MPOB DEVELOPS THREE ADVANCED PALM-BASED TECHNOLOGIES FOR COMMERCIALISATION

15/01/2021 02:32 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 -- The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has developed three advanced palm-based technologies for commercialisation, approved by the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities.

The developments are the process and formulation of Palm Vitamin E or Tocotrienol Rich Fraction (TRF) chewable tablet, palm oil-based polyol for floorcoverings for indoor and outdoor, and sports flooring markets, as well as the process and formulation of moisturising hand sanitiser with Vitamin E.

In a statement today, the MPOB said the local manufacturers and small and medium enterprises should take the opportunity to commercialise these palm-based technologies as they offer great potential to be marketed globally.

Further explaining about the TRF chewable tablet, the MPOB said it is nutritious, delicious and multi-flavoured with palm Vitamin E or TRF as the primary active ingredient, which consists of 70-80 per cent of potent tocotrienols and 20-30 per cent of tocopherols that possesses a myriad of health-enhancing benefits.

“Vitamin E or TRF is an antioxidant that slows the ageing process and protects against cell destruction through oxidation of valuable nutrients in the body provided by the food you eat.

“It also provides anti-ageing, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, cholesterol-lowering, anti-diabetic properties, and other health-enhancing benefits,” it said.

The board said the technology would encourage local manufacturers to use palm-based oils and derivatives in the value-added food formulation that would widen application of palm-based oils and derivatives in the industry.

On polyurethane made from palm oil-based polyol, it said the technology is used to coat the back side of carpet to protect stitched artificial grass with compressive strength and cushioning effect.

“These products will increase and diversify the usage of palm oil in adhesives products and offer renewable palm-based coating to various industries and consumers,” it said.

Elaborating on the hand sanitiser development, the MPOB said the technology has diversified the application of palm oleochemicals and Vitamin E in cleansing products while enhancing the agency’s image in addressing COVID-19 related issues.

“The hand sanitiser is enriched with glycerine and palm vitamin E, besides enhancing skin hydration and protects the skin against the damaging free radicals,” it added.
